I can’t even deal right now …
Nikie F., a patron already at the Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic writes:
This is pure bull shit. The hotel, Melia, is saying that Inferno hasn’t paid anything to the hotel… for any one and that the event was canceled several months ago for non payment. They are asking us to pay, if we want to stay. Lots of people showed up yesterday and at least 20 today, with the same problem. This is not a good look and I pray that it is not what it seems. Someone needs to contact Will Williams and Worldwide Travel.
*Do not come to the Dominican unless you can afford to pay the hotel directly… #pissed
Worldwide Travel was set to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of their popular gay vacation tomorrow Thursday, August 29th to Monday, September 2nd. No new dates have been announced at time of publishing.
Story developing …
What would you do in this situation?
Update #1 - People are reporting flights booked through the travel agency – Worldwide Travel – are still confirmed. But, the resort is still firm with their ‘if you want to stay, you’re going to pay’ motto. Melia also sent an e-mail offering nightly rates between $95-$275. Pay now and if Will Williams or Worldwide Travel shows up to pay they will wire a refund in three business days.
Update #2 - Lonnell Williams, known as 3LWtv on YouTube, reports:
” As a media sponsor for [Inferno DR], I’ve been working to assist as best I can. As you can imagine, the team is OVERWHELMED.”
“They are working on the refunds. If you purchased the travel insurance you’ll need to file a claim with the insurance company. If you did not, they will give an update on the refund status. That’s the latest info I have as of now. If I get more info I’ll gladly share.”
“Trust me, I’m doing my best to keep people informed. Will has not been able to take calls because he is dedicating all of his resources to resolve this. It’s hell on this end too.”
Update #3- Robert D. writes on Facebook:
“To every stranded participant of Inferno 2013 already here at the Melia Tropical Resort we would like to extend to you an invite to meet and greet tonight @8:15 in front of the Marketplace restaurant…also to plan our events for the remainder of our stay…. See you there….”
Lonnell says the issue with the hotel likely will not be resolved.
Update #4 - Nikie F. returns to Facebook:
“According to the hotel Inferno never paid the 40% due in March and never paid in July (yet all of us paid our balances in full). The hotel says they canceled for non-payment months ago… so where is our money? Where is my refund for a wasted trip out here. I held Will in high regard…I wasn’t happy with last year… but this takes the cake.”
Popular Model Stanley Etoty responds to fan inquiries:
I’m truly sorry to hear of this you all. I have been receiving calls, text and fb messages all day. I do not have any answers to you’re questions though. I have no idea what is going on. I just pray that everyone is well and all of this will be rectified.
I am suppose to be a host at the event but I wasn’t book. I haven’t heard anything in months. A few others that were supposed to be booked contacted me asking if I heard anything a few days ago but that’s it.
I’ll be in the ATL. With all due respect boss man knows what he needs to do. Will Williams this is your brand, you’re name. You’re staff needs to do what they are paid for or be replaced. People shouldn’t be calling me asking questions that Inferno & Worldwide Travel Partners staff should be answering. It’s not fair to customer or to me.
Peace, love and blessings always
I’ll be in ATL #turnup
Update #5 - While most people have called their banks with fraud claims, some guests with confirmed flights are booking resort rooms through BookIt, Expedia, and other mediums. Melia also sent an e-mail to vacationers they were expecting (if World Wide had paid their deposit) offering discounted excursions and shuttle travel.
SHOUT OUT TO MELIA! Be sure to tweet them @MeliaHotelsInt and thank them for helping our friends recover during this trying time.
Update #6 - Official statement from Lonnell Williams, Media Representative for Inferno DR:
To all who have reached out to me today in light and love know that you are truly appreciated. I’ve been in overdrive trying to assist with the communications regarding the postponement of InfernoDR 2013. At this time I don’t have much more information other than what I’ve shared on the Inferno Dominican Republic Men and Inferno Dominican Republic Women Facebook pages. Most of you have asked me where is Will Williams ? He has been grappling with the devastating affects of today’s announcement. I’m hoping he will be in a position to make an address soon. As further details become available of course I will share. In the meantime please continue to hold everyone involved (Will, The Inferno Team, patrons, friends, supporters & myself) up in the healing power of prayer. It is much needed and appreciated. Thank you.
Update #7 – Inferno DR President Will Williams has released a statement promising to ‘resolve every patrons account’ + the first footage from the resort surfaces. Click here to see it all.
Update #8 – The weekend is just about over and the newly renamed #DRtakeover seems to still have been a great time. Click HERE to see pics/videos from the event!
