Am I the only one who expected to not hear a word about sweet lil Blue Ivy Carter until she was 18 announcing her tell all book about how she grew up sheltered in a dungeon all while preparing to slay the scene with her debut single? Well, it looks like they’ve proved me wrong. This morning Jay-Z released a celebration song and Beyonce has now released a statement via her official website:

We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.
